How to convert odds
American to decimal. Minus odds: divide 100 by the number and add 1, so -110 is 100 ÷ 110 + 1 = 1.91. Plus odds: divide the number by 100 and add 1, so +150 is 150 ÷ 100 + 1 = 2.50.
Decimal to American. At 2.00 or more, subtract 1 and multiply by 100: 2.50 becomes +150. Under 2.00, divide -100 by the decimal minus 1: 1.91 becomes -100 ÷ 0.91, about -110.
Any price to a chance. Divide 1 by the decimal price. 1 ÷ 1.91 = 52.4%. 1 ÷ 2.50 = 40%. That is the chance the price says the bet wins, called the implied chance.
What the implied chance tells you
It is the break-even win rate. At -110 you need to win more than 52.4% of your bets to make money. At +150 you need more than 40%. A bet is worth making only when its real chance is higher than the chance its price implies. That gap is +EV.
